Thousands of new books go up on Amazon every day, and only so many fit on page one of any search. Most readers will never see your cover or read your blurb unless someone points them there. That someone is you.
Most authors never learn to market their books. The ones who do are the ones who get their books to the readers who will love them.
• Only you know who the book is for. You know the reader, their problem, and why your book helps.
• Only you can tell why it exists. Your story is the reason a reader cares.
• Only you can make an honest invitation. An ad can rent attention. Only you can earn it.
Self-promotion is talking about yourself. Book marketing is helping the right reader discover a book they'll be glad they found.
You're not bragging. You're a guide who happens to have written the book.
If you've been dreading it, you've probably been picturing the wrong thing. For most authors, this is the more rewarding part of publishing.
Before anyone is going to buy your book, they need to KNOW that your book exists.
Then, they need to CARE about your book enough to BUY it.
Your book is your HOOK!
Being a published author gets people to stop and give you a chance to tell your story.
Use your book to get attention on social media and let people KNOW that you book exists.
This is your chance to CONNECT with readers, so make it count!
Why did you write this book?
Who is the book for?
Why should they CARE about your book?
They know you exist and they've heard your story. Now, tell them what's next!
ASK them to:
-Like and Share your post
-Follow you on social media
-Join your email list
-BUY your book
Set up the system once, then follow it for 100 days. Small daily actions, done consistently and patiently, add up.
Each sale is a real reader who found a book you wrote, and that is why this works better than shouting into the void.
Chris Green here, and I've sold over 500,000 books exclusively through Amazon's KDP platform (and without spending a dollar on paid ads).
I've spent the past FIFTEEN YEARS helping authors sell more books by answering their questions about book marketing.
This book contains everything that I've been teaching including my Proven 2-Step Book Marketing System and all of the best answers to the most common book marketing questions.
• Why being a published author is the real leverage. It's the tipping point most authors never use.
• How successful authors make money from their books beyond royalties, and why royalties are often the smallest slice of the income.
• The biggest mistake most authors make: sending strangers straight to an Amazon link. And what to do instead.
• How to sell to people who don't know you yet, without paid ads.
• How to get people to know, care, and buy in 100 days.
Every sale has two sides, and you've been on the reader's side your whole life. You've probably bought hundreds of books, so you already know what gets you to pick one up.
But now you're on the other side, and nobody ever taught you what the author does.
If all you want to do is "sell books", you should just sell existing bestsellers. They already have thousands of reviews and plenty of social proof. It's much easier.
But you want YOUR BOOK to sell, and that's a different game altogether.
It's also something that's easy to get wrong without even knowing it. Most of what follows is stuff you couldn't have known unless you'd been on this side before.
...that readers discover books by browsing covers and blurbs.
The truth is that THOUSANDS of books are published every day. The odds that a stranger stumbles onto yours, sees the cover, and reads the blurb are close to zero.
...that Amazon promotes booksvonce they are published.
Amazon tends to show books that are already selling, so the first sales have to come from somewhere else.
...that posting your link on social media is "marketing".
A link with no reason to care behind it is just noise.
...that marketing means being pushy or fake.
Being known, and giving people a reason to care, is the opposite.
It's okay that you didn't know these. If you're not an author, none of it ever comes up.
The good news is that most authors never learn this, so the ones who do stand out.

If you want to sell books, you need the reader to know about your book, care about your book, and then buy your book.
You get them there with the Book → Story → Offer™ system.
Think of it in two steps.
Step one is the FOUNDATION:
You need a way to CAPTURE the attention that you're going to get in Step two.
Why? Because readers rarely buy books the first time that they see them or from an author they've never heard of.
This means building a website (with landing pages and lead magnets), and social media profiles that have a purpose:
To make it CLEAR that you are an author and to make it SIMPLE and EASY for people to get more information about you and/or your book.
Step two is getting ATTENTION:
Most authors skip step one and wonder why step two doesn't work.
Book → Know. "What is this?" Your book is your hook. Telling people you wrote a book is a big deal to a lot of them. Brand yourself as a published author on your website, your social profiles, and Amazon, and everything else you do works harder. This system doesn't work if you aren't an author.
Story → Care. "Why should I care? Why spend my time and money on this? Why trust you with either?" Your story is the reason. Some people will care and some won't, and that's fine.
Offer → Buy. "What are you asking me for?" A follow, an email address, a purchase: it's all an ask. Some asks need more know and care than others, and you earn the right to make them through the book and the story.
Most authors skip straight to the ask. They post their Amazon link and wonder why nobody buys.
People buy from people they know, like, and trust.
But when someone sells a bottle of shampoo, the salesperson is the difference maker. When you sell your book, you are what's being sold. You're selling yourself as much as the book, maybe more.
Like is a preference. Care is a connection. You can collect a thousand likes and not one sale. Care gives a reader a reason, even a small sense of obligation to buy your book, and that's the part the story is for.
It's also why this system aims at care. You aren't only earning trust. You have something to sell, so people have to care enough to act.
Books aren't like other things people buy. Nobody picks a book because it's the best, the cheapest, or has the fanciest cover. Readers connect with authors, and different readers connect with different authors. The person on the other side of this is buying YOU as much as your book.
So every sale comes down to one question: do YOU care about your book?
It's okay if the answer is no. Plenty of people write a book and are done with it. If that's you, you can stop here.
If the answer is YES, here's the part that isn't comfortable:
Readers connect with authors who care enough to show up for their books.
If you don't, they'll find another author who does. That isn't about talent. It's about who's putting in the effort, and who learned the fundamentals of book marketing.
It's not always easy, but it is always simple. Be proud of your book. Be your own biggest fan. Because if not you, then who?
Nobody will ever care about your book, your readers, or your customers more than you do.

If you're writing a book, about to write one, or have already published one, this is for you. If you're not, skip it. It's built for a narrow audience on purpose.
This book makes one promise: you'll learn how to sell your first 100 books in 100 days, without paid ads and without turning into someone you're not.
